What are Viking Villages?

At La Salle Academy, Viking Villages are a fun and engaging part of our school community that promote teamwork, leadership, and school spirit. Every student and staff member belongs to one of four villages, each represented by a color and patron saint inspired by the tradition of St. Ubaldo Day in Jessup: Red Village – Saint Antonio, Yellow Village – Saint Ubaldo, Green Village – Saint John Baptist de La Salle, and Blue Village – Saint Georgio. Within each village, there are Captains, Junior Captains, Chaplains, and Historians—roles that provide meaningful opportunities for student leadership and achievement. These positions make up the Viking Council, a group of student leaders dedicated to building community, inspiring others, and planning opportunities for service and engagement throughout the school year.

Throughout the year, villages earn points for positive behavior, academic success, participation, and acts of kindness. These points contribute to friendly competitions and special rewards that celebrate effort and collaboration. Viking Villages help students build connections across grade levels, fostering a strong sense of belonging, tradition, and pride in being part of the La Salle family.

Viking Village Council

At La Salle Academy, student leadership is a vital part of our school culture. Each year, select students are appointed to leadership positions within our Viking Villages, forming the Viking Council. Members of this council are recognized for their commitment to building community, inspiring others, and promoting service throughout the school. They demonstrate the true meaning of leadership by fostering school spirit, encouraging their peers to reach their full potential, and helping to plan opportunities for service and engagement. Students in grades 6 through 8 are nominated for Viking Council roles by La Salle Academy’s faculty, while representatives in grades 4 and 5 are chosen by their classmates.

Roles of the Viking Council
Each village will have one student serving in each of the following positions, supervised by a faculty member. All positions are held for one school year.

  • Captain (8th Grade Only): The Captain serves as the “President” of the village. Captains lead quarterly village meetings, work closely with faculty advisors, organize events and service projects, track and share village point totals, and help strengthen school spirit and unity.

  • Junior Captain (Grades 6–8): The Junior Captain serves as the “Vice President” and assists the Captain with all leadership responsibilities. They help plan events, coordinate service projects, and step in for the Captain when needed.

  • Chaplain (Grades 6–8): The Chaplain leads their village in prayer and supports the Captain and Junior Captain in planning service opportunities and community-building activities. This role helps nurture the spiritual life of the village and promotes faith-based leadership.

  • Historian (Grades 6–8): The Historian serves as the “Secretary” of the village, documenting meetings, events, and activities through note-taking and photography. They preserve the story and accomplishments of their village throughout the school year.

Together, the Viking Council members lead by example—modeling faith, service, and community as true La Salle Academy Vikings.
